The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results for the year 2023 have been officially released, ushering in a crucial phase in the country’s education landscape. Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu unveiled the results on December 21, 2022, employing a fully computerized selection process. Parents and candidates can now access the results by sending
the candidate’s index number, followed by the initials KCPE to code 40054, with each SMS incurring a charge of Sh25.
CS Machogu highlighted the outstanding achievement of 38,972 candidates who scored 400 marks and above. Among these high achievers, 18,794 female and 20,178 male students have secured coveted placements in National Schools. All candidates who participated in the November 2022 KCPE have successfully been placed in secondary schools, with the reporting period for 2023 Form 1 students scheduled from February 6 to 13.
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the education system, Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) are set to commence on January 30, 2023. Learners transitioning to Grade 7 will experience a shift in school uniforms designated for the junior secondary category. The government has allocated Sh9.6 billion for Junior Secondary School students for the academic year, with the Treasury earmarking KES 15,000 per learner as capitation to facilitate free learning in all public schools.
In addressing financial considerations, Education CS Machogu affirmed that public junior secondary schools will not charge school fees unless they have boarding facilities. Moreover, public secondary school fees for 2023 are capped at Sh53,554 for national schools and Sh40,555 for county schools. To augment the teaching staff in Junior Secondary Schools, the government plans to recruit graduate teachers. CS Machogu further directed that Junior Secondary School learners will adopt distinct uniforms from those in primary schools.
A notable addition to result accessibility is the SMS option, which allows parents and candidates to obtain KCPE results conveniently.
